CA Ventures makes second donation that changes program in four years
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The University of Illinois Intercollegiate Athletics Division announced a second major gift in four years for CA Ventures’ Fighting Illini Investment Projects, a real estate investment firm founded by Tom Scott. , alumnus of the Gies College of Business. This most recent donation, which is also possible through the Scott Family Foundation, established in 2006 by Tom, Julie and Christopher Scott, will commit $4 million to the Ubben Basketball Complex renovation and expansion project and $1 million for the Illinois men’s tennis program. In 2018, CA Ventures also paid $2.5 million to the Henry Dale and Betty Smith Football Center to name the rooftop terrace.

The firm also offers third-party management services for student and residential assets.

Ubben’s renovation and expansion will add approximately 40,000 square feet to the existing structure, while remodeling large portions of the original building. New offices for coaches and a lobby are included in the project. Two new half courts will be added to the spaces of the women’s and men’s gymnasiums, providing programs with additional space to work on player development. The project will include a strength and conditioning addition, player recovery areas and a state-of-the-art sports medicine facility, and will significantly increase the size of locker rooms and player lounges. Groundbreaking for new construction is expected to begin in spring 2021.

The $1 million donation for the nationally ranked Fighting Illini men’s tennis team will help the program continue to provide impactful experiences for its student-athletes and enhance one of the best college tennis facilities, the Atkins Tennis Center and the Khan Tennis Complex. Under the direction of 16and head coach of the year brad dancer, the Illinois men’s tennis team has competed in the NCAA tournament for 15 consecutive years, including an appearance in the national title game in 2007.

CA Ventures’ $5 million donation counts toward the $300 million fundraising goal for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics, which is part of “With Illinois,” the 2.25 fundraising campaign billions of dollars university-wide.
