Streets told the fictional story of a right-wing extremist who assassinates a senior Israeli government official while proposing talks with the Palestinians. The film, which was made in English because Ne’eman received international funding for the project, received a lot of scathing reviews from critics who saw it as so unrealistic as to be delusional. After the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin six years later, he proved tragically ahead of his time. Ne’eman, who was never able to secure funding for the filming in Hebrew (first because he was seen as so unrealistic that he was marginal, and later because he was seen as uninteresting. once such an assassination had taken place), ceased making films for several years.

When he released the movie Nujhat al Fouad in 2006 there was great curiosity to see what he had to say after nearly two decades away from the cinema. The film, which stars Efrat Gosh and Mohammad Bakri, is an intricate look at the intersection of art, emotion, family and legend, and weaves into the Arabian Nights stories, and it has been hailed by many as a masterpiece. He continues with two documentaries, Zitra (Tomorrow): Of truth and reconciliation, about young Israeli and German musicians bringing the story of a Holocaust survivor to life, and In the desert, the story of an intimate friendship that survives a political disagreement.

In addition to his careers as a director and doctor, Ne’eman also studied mathematics, physics and theater and was head of the film department at Tel Aviv University. He was also a poet and received military honors for his treatment of the wounded on the battlefield in the Six Day War, the War of Attrition, and the Yom Kippur War.
