Nerdio brings significant backup and disaster recovery capabilities to Azure Virtual Desktop
Nerdio Manager improves the resiliency of Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) and ensures continuous access to business applications and data
Chicago, December 09, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Nerdio, the premier solution for organizations of all sizes looking to deploy virtual desktops in Microsoft Azure, today announced important new backup and disaster recovery capabilities in its Nerdio Manager products that enhance AVD’s resilience and provide data protection and continuity against a variety of data loss scenarios.
“As the use of Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) continues to grow, it has become an essential part of enabling continuous and secure access to business applications and data,” said Vadim Vladimirskiy, CEO and co-founder from Nerdio. “Powerful new backup and disaster recovery features added in Nerdio Manager related to core areas of AVD operation, such as desktop image management and session hosts, improve service resiliency, ensure business continuity and allow us to help IT teams when they need it most.
The main backup and disaster recovery features now available in Nerdio Manager include:
Disaster recovery of active / active host pool – When enabled, Nerdio Manager will automatically distribute session host virtual machines (VMs) in two Azure regions. Users will be distributed across virtual machines in both regions when they log on, and FSLogix profiles will automatically replicate. In the event of an Azure region failure, users will continue to access virtual machines in the available region, ensuring continuity of data and operations. This feature will be available in Nerdio Manager for MSP in Q1 2022.
Desktop image backup and geographic replication – Nerdio Manager’s built-in desktop image backup feature allows users to automatically backup images. Users can geo-replicate desktop images through Nerdio’s integration with Azure Compute Gallery to keep desktop images in sync across multiple Azure regions.
FSLogix Cloud Cache Support – Nerdio Manager automatically enables and configures FSLogix Cloud Cache on host pools enabled for disaster recovery. User profiles are replicated asynchronously across multiple vaults, making them available during regional outages. This provides a resilient disaster recovery setup, because if a location becomes unavailable, Cloud Cache automatically fails over to a secondary location where the profiles can be accessed.
Self-healing abilities – Session host virtual machines are responsible for delivering users’ desktops and applications and must be available for users to connect. Nerdio Manager’s Auto-Heal feature automatically detects and repairs broken session hosts.
“As businesses increasingly embrace virtual workplace technologies such as VDI, ensuring resiliency and data recovery is a top priority,” said Mark Bowker, Senior Analyst, ESG. “In fact, according to our data, in addition to strengthening authentication, business continuity and disaster recovery plans are a top priority to support today’s ‘back to office’ transitions. By supporting active / active replication and adding features like integrated desktop image backups, Nerdio improves business uptime and makes AVD virtual desktops a resilient choice for digital workforces around the world.
Nerdio Manager extends the native AVD service rather than replacing it like other proprietary VDI management solutions on the market. With distinct products designed to meet the needs of Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and enterprises, it offers more than 200 features that native service lacks to simplify management, ensure efficient operations through automation, and reduce costs. computation and storage costs on average between 50 and 75%.
New features and additional functionality for both Nerdio Manager products will be unveiled at NerdioCon, Nerdio’s first in-person user and partner conference to be held February 21-23, 2022 in Cancun, Mexico. To register, visit www.nerdiocon.com.
Nerdio enables Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and businesses to build successful cloud practices in Microsoft Azure with Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365.
