NSCDC reassures on safeguarding national assets and infrastructure
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) General Commandant General Vandalism Surveillance Unit (CG’s SAVMU) says it will not rest on its oars as long as its mandate to safeguard all assets and critical national infrastructures across the federation will not have been updated.
Unit Commander, DCC Brah Samson said this at the recent inauguration of the CG SAVMU in Port Harcourt.
Samson, who spoke through NSCDS’ Rivers State Command public relations officer, DSC Olufemi Ayodele, hinted that the task of the unit was not limited to combating the threat of oil theft. and illegal trafficking in petroleum products, but to other areas.
According to him, his mandate extends to everything related to the safeguarding of critical national assets and infrastructure, such as the safeguarding of oil pipelines and electrical installations.
Others are, water pipes, telecommunications masts and gadgets, and all infrastructure essential to the government and business existence of the nation as a whole.
He also informed that the Unit has been resolute in tackling illegal oil bunkering activities, which led to the seizure of five tankers loaded with suspected petroleum products recently in the state.
About two of the tankers, he said, have a capacity of about 33,000 liters, one has about 40,000 liters, another 45,000 liters and the last had a capacity of about 15,000 liters of automotive diesel ( AGO) locally refined.
“The Commanding General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, in his renewed vigor to combat the threat of illegal trafficking of petroleum products across the federation, inaugurated the CG SAVMU, to enhance the protection of all national assets and infrastructure country reviews.
“The CG’S SAVMU on arrival in Rivers State sprang into action and seized the trucks at Abuloma in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of Rivers State,” said he declared.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Commander of the NSCDC, Mr Abu Tambuwal, has ordered that a full investigation be carried out to apprehend the suspects as there are plans to approach the court after the conclusion of the investigation. .
