OTTAWA, ON, August 16, 2021 / CNW / – The Leaders Debates Commission invites media representatives to apply for accreditation for upcoming Leaders Debates.
Both debates will take place at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec on Wednesday September 8 (French) and Thursday September 9 (English).
All media representatives wishing to have access to one or both of the debates must apply for accreditation by the Commission.
Media representatives will have 10 days to request accreditation.
The application deadline is Wednesday 25 August To 11:59 PM EDT. All requests accompanied by supporting documents and information should be submitted to: [email protected]

Media representatives seeking accreditation for leaders’ debates will need to apply under one of the three options described below.
All media representatives must indicate whether they wish to attend the debate in French, the debate in English or both debates in their request to the Commission.
They must also indicate whether they wish to be on site or attend virtually.
Please note that on-site capacity may be limited due to public health measures related to COVID-19.
Option 1:
Any media representative who is a member of the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery will automatically be eligible for accreditation.

Applicants for Option 1 must provide the following:
Option 2:
Any media representative who is a member of one of the following four professional media organizations will automatically be eligible for accreditation:

Canadian Association of Journalists (ACJ) (active members (journalists) only);

National News Media Council (NNC);

Advice from Quebec press (CPQ); and
-
Professional Federation of Quebec Journalists (FPJQ).
Supporting documents and information
Applicants for option 2 must provide the following:

A statement that they are members of one of the four professional media organizations listed above; and

A passport-size photo (JPEG format).
Option 3:
Any media representative who is not a member of the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery or one of the four professional media organizations listed under option 2, may apply for accreditation under option 3. This option is also available to foreign media representatives requesting accreditation to debates.
Supporting documents and information
Canadian media representatives a request under option 3 must provide all of the following:

An Assignment Letter, identifying that the candidate is assigned to the Leaders’ Debates, which is signed and dated by their Assignment Editor / Authorized Editor / Editor (PDF format). This letter should include reach and audience information (print broadcast, radio / TV audience, digital audience / website traffic / social media / website subscribers); and

Link to the media organization’s website, indicating that it contributes to or belongs to a media organization that produces original news content related to Canadian / international political news coverage or covers political, social and policies, and whose content is updated weekly;

Six recent articles / reports in the last six months under their signature, identifying journalism as their regular activity; and
-
A passport-size photo (JPEG format).
Foreign media representatives a request under option 3 must provide all of the following:

An Assignment Letter, identifying that the candidate is assigned to the Leaders’ Debates, which is signed and dated by their Assignment Editor / Authorized Editor / Editor (PDF format). This letter should include reach and audience information (print broadcast, radio / TV audience, digital audience / website traffic / social media / website subscribers); and

A scanned copy of a valid international press card provided by a recognized national professional body or a passport size photo (JPEG format).

The Leaders ‘Debates Commission is working with the Debate Broadcast Group to produce debates that will be consistent with the COVID-19 public health measures in place at the time of the two leaders’ debates. These protocols may have an impact on the number of media representatives that the Commission can accredit.
Accredited media will have the same access whether they are working in a physical or virtual environment.
Applications
The Commission will do everything in its power to respond as quickly as possible to media accreditation requests. All communications, including accreditation decisions, will be made in writing via email.
