Commanding five floors, this unparalleled experience seamlessly integrates luxury furnishings collections from RH Contemporary, Interiors, Modern and Outdoor with rare works of art, antiques and artefacts from around the world. Built in 1917 and designed in the neoclassical style by eminent San Francisco architect Frederick H. Meyer, the historic building has been meticulously restored and reimagined with great respect for its original vision. Gary Friedman, President and CEO of HR revitalized several other landmark buildings across the country, including the former Back Bay Museum of Natural History in Boston, the Post Office in Greenwich, Connecticut, and the Historic Three Arts Club on Chicago’s Gold Coast.

The monumental structure sits proudly on the corner of Illinois and 20and Streets, featuring elegant neoclassical architecture that has been artistically restored by famed Bay Area artist and color authority James Goodman. Entering through custom hand-wrought iron doors adorned with intricate scrollwork and gilded acanthus leaves, guests pass through an intimate vestibule with wall fountains and antique urns that open into a rare octagonal lobby with original pink marble floors, cast stone walls and a meticulously restored ornamental plaster ceiling by Manuel Palos.
Architecturally integrated to form a new central core of the building, customers will discover The Palm Court Restauranta wood-fired dining experience featuring a monolithic marble cooking hearth flanked by custom Molteni rotisseries from France.
Sitting beneath a dramatic atrium, this year-round lit escape recalls the glamor of San Francisco’s Golden Age – a stunning statement-making space with an old shipyard-inspired metal frame, towering Medjool date palms and a central cascading fountain sculpted in gilded Calacatta marble.
Located next to each entrance to The Palm Court restaurant, two bright bedrooms Wine bars serve exceptional champagnes and wines from around the world for visitors to enjoy in the adjacent lounges or while exploring the gallery – including 40 wines by the glass and limited production offerings from Napa Valley’s renowned small winemakers.
Extending into each gallery wing from the lobby, two white Colorado marble-walled hallways pass through a classic layout of rooms. Here, visitors will discover an entire floor dedicated to an exclusive preview of Contemporary HR ahead of its spring 2022 debut. With a striking elliptical passage off the hall, the original stairway rotunda provides access to level two. When you arrive, you will discover HR interiors – a tribute to refined design through the ages. Extending seamlessly from the original, a grand new spiral staircase connects levels three and four. Natural light streams from a circular skylight two stories above while a dramatic thirteen-tier Serenella chandelier suspended from its center point further illuminates the path.
Once the studio of naval architects and master draftsmen who designed some of the nation’s most legendary ships, Level Three now hosts a 10,000 square foot open exhibition space backed by matte limestone plaster walls highlighting value modern HR – the world’s largest fully integrated assortment of modern furniture, lighting, textiles and décor under one brand.
At the top of the grand staircase, visitors will arrive at the rooftop park. The immersive garden space is first experienced in a vestibule marked by retractable glass walls that open onto a beautifully landscaped park framing panoramic views of San Francisco Bay and the downtown skyline. Influenced by the grand parterre gardens of the French Renaissance, the destination encompasses a series of outside right lounge spaces defined by a layered composition of trellised London plane trees, sculptural evergreens and the sound of trickling fountains.
Occupying the entire lower level is a HR interior design firm and workshop — at 10,000 square feet, the brand’s largest to date.
