IN REGARDS TO BRADLEY THEODORE
Based between Miami Beach and New York City, Bradley Theodore is a multidisciplinary artist whose iconoclastic approach to art is found internationally, from 10 foot murals in the streets of new York, Tokyo, and Milan, sold-out solo exhibitions at London. With roots in graphic design, Theodore began his artistic career by adorning the streets of New York City with vibrant and chromatic murals of skeletal crews depicting contemporary pop culture and fashion “royalty”. The artist has become a staple of the art and fashion scene around the world.
Born in Turks & Caicos, Bradley Theodore is an artist and a collaborator of international orientation since its very beginnings. Having worked in the technology and design industry after graduating from School of Visual Arts, Théodore moved to San Francisco for a short time before returning to new York where his artistic career took off after getting involved in the lower street art scene Manhattan. He is now known for the jet set since Miami To new York, To London and Tokyo and back, for public art engagements and gallery tours.
Theodore uses images and colors that highlight the fleeting fame and pervasive mortality that is often obscured in celebrity culture, which he makes accessible by exposing the internal structure of known icons. Particularly focused on portraying “royalty” in this way, from queen elizabeth and George washington to arguably the most famous portraits of Theodore of the giants of fashion Anna wintour and Karl Lagerfeld, viewers are invited to reflect on life, death and inner beauty – and ruminate on this concept of memento mori.
