This Weekend in Central Michigan: Bluegrass, Comedy and More
It’s shaping up to be another great weekend for summertime fun in Mid-Michigan! Check out some of the cool stuff you could get into this first weekend of August.
Ingham County Fair

Several county fairs are held in the area, including the Ingham County Fair in Mason, which now runs through Saturday (August 6). Halfway Carnival is open daily at 1 p.m. and demolition derbies take place on Friday and Saturday evenings.
Saginaw County Fair
Unlimited halfway rides are included with the $15 admission cost to the Saginaw County Fair. There is also no additional charge to attend grandstand events, including motocross on Thursday, side-by-side racing on Friday, and rodeo on Saturday night. This fair ends on August 6th.
Milan Music Festival

The Milan Music Fest brings some of the best bluegrass to Mid-Michigan. This festival is held at the KC campsite in Milan and runs until Saturday August 6th. Featured artists this week include Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers, The Lonesome River Band, The Malpass Brothers, Russell Moore & IIIrd Time Out and Rhonda Vincent & The Rage.
Monroe County Fair
The Monroe County Fair runs through Saturday (August 6). Midway rides open at 1 p.m. daily – noon on Saturdays. Grandstand events to close out the week include a tractor raffle on Thursday night, a monster truck show on Friday and a concert on Saturday night featuring Tesla with special guest Firehouse.
Good times at Goodrich Festival
Just outside of Flint, you’ll find the Good Times in Goodrich Festival, which takes place on Friday and Saturday (August 5 and 6). The organizers affectionately call it “the biggest little festival that no one has heard of”. There’s a car and truck show, Friday night’s “Hoedown in G Town” with mechanical bulls and more, and lots of live music on both days.

The Buy Michigan Now festival runs Friday through Sunday (August 5-7) on Main and Center streets in downtown Northville. This event boasts “made-in-Michigan products abound, including accessories, apparel, art, beverages, candles, food, jewelry, home decor, skincare, woodwork, and more. .” Enjoy live music and lots of food too!
Hispanic Festival 2022
The 2022 Hispanic Festival will be held at Calder Plaza in Grand Rapids Friday through Sunday (August 5-7). It’s a weekend full of Latin food, dancing, live music and fun!
Island Art Fair
The 49th Annual Island Art Fair will be held on Saturday, August 6 at Grand Ledge. This free event brings together artists and artisans from across Michigan, offering visitors an unlimited variety of unique, quality creations. Take a boat trip to the island!
Grand Blanc Lounge
The Grand Blanc Art Fair is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday (August 6 and 7) at Physician’s Park near downtown Grand Blanc. Arts and crafts using all kinds of mediums are represented, including metal, sculpture, glass, painting, photography, wood and jewelry.
Shiawassee County Fair
The Shiawassee County Fair kicks off Sunday, August 7 in La Coruña and runs through next week. Sunday’s main event is the TNT Bump and Run, with many more activities to follow throughout the week.
Jackson County Fair

The Jackson County Fair also begins Sunday, August 7 at Keeley Park in Jackson and runs through next week. This year’s fair kicks off with a pair of legendary comedians: Larry the Cable Guy and Jeff Foxworthy. Good tickets are still available here.
