War on crime portraits coming up for auction
Originally painted in 1999, Alex Ross’s iconic paintings of the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight are up for auction for thousands of dollars.
The original versions of Alex Ross’s cover paintings for Superman: Peace on Earth and Batman: the war on crime are auctioned.
The works are available as part of the Heritage Auctions Comics and Comics Auction from September 8 to 12. Both gouache paintings were done on bristol board and measure 13 inches x 17.5 inches. Both books won a flurry of awards, with War on crime receiving both a Harvey and an Eisner in 2000. The books were the precursor to four other works by Dini and Ross, including Shazam: the power of hope and Wonder Woman: Spirit of Truth, which were then classified as The greatest superheroes in the world series.
