The Daily Wild Cat compiles a weekly list of important dates to note to help students keep track of academic events and deadlines in the midst of their busy schedules. Discover below some of the dates to remember for this week, from September 20 to 26.
Sep 20-24: Study Abroad Fair Week
The University of Arizona Global presents a week-long study abroad fair to provide students with “useful information on applying for and funding study abroad through live webinars,” according to the UA Global website. The show includes virtual walk-in counseling on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 12 noon and 2 to 4 pm, as well as a raffle for a chance to win $ 1,000. The fair ends with a party at the Global Center, located at 615 N. Park Ave., on Fridays, 7 to 9 p.m. For more information or to register for the fair and party, visit the UA Global website.
Sep 21, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m .: LGBTQ + community care space
This virtual event takes place on the third Tuesday of each month and includes guided meditation for beginners – no meditative experience required. The event is open to anyone who identifies as part of the LGBTQ + community, including those who are not affiliated with the university. To participate in this event and all future LGBTQ + Community Care Space events, register using the Zoom registration link. Sept. 21, 6 p.m. and 9 p.m .: Short film screenings: Magic Hour
The Loft Cinema, located at 3233 E. Speedway Blvd., will host two 90-minute screenings of short films directed by students of the UA School of Theater, Film & Television. The subjects of the short films range from “an angry polar bear” to “a young man unable to face the truth”, and viewing is free and open to the public. The first screening starts at 6 p.m., and the second at 9 p.m. For more information, visit the Loft’s website.
Sep 24, 6-9 p.m .: Opening night of The Art of Planetary Science 2021: Space Travel
The Art of Planetary Science Gallery will have its opening night in the Kuiper Space Science building, located at 1629 E. University Blvd. The in-person event kicks off Friday at 6 p.m. and will include night sky viewing and live music from Daytrails. Event organizers are encouraging gallery visitors to wear their “favorite space-themed clothes” for the event, according to the event flyer. Sep 25, 7:30 p.m .: Arizona Symphony Orchestra
The Arizona Symphony Orchestra will perform in concert at the Crowder Hall of the Fred Fox School of Music, located at 1017 N. Olive Road. The orchestra will feature pianist Soo Yoen Kim, who won the 2020-21 Concerto Competition. Admission costs $ 10. To purchase tickets in advance, visit the UA College of Fine Arts website.
September 25, 7:30 p.m .: Arizona vs Oregon away game
Arizona football will face the University of Oregon at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon. The Wildcats are currently on a three-game losing streak for the season, while Oregon maintains a three-game winning streak, most recently decimating Stony Brook on September 18 with a 48-7 victory. The Arizona vs Oregon game will be broadcast live via ESPN.
