Donna Oldfather Obituary (2022) – Peru, IN
Donna Marie Oldfather, 87, of Peru, died on Thursday January 27, 2022 after a long illness. She was born on October 24, 1934 in Bunker Hill, Indiana, the daughter of James R. and Martha C. (Fisher) Boyer. Donna graduated in 1952 from Bunker Hill High School where she enjoyed playing cheerleaders, playing the clarinet and serving as a cheerleader in the marching band. After graduating, she married her best friend and the love of her life, Lloyd E. Oldfather, on August 7, 1954. During Lloyd’s service in the military, he was deployed to Germany, where she l then joined. This time abroad began their love of traveling the world together. They shared more than 60 years of marriage.
She worked and then retired from Delco Electronics in 1991. She was a member of UAW Local 292. Donna was a member of First Baptist Church in Bunker Hill. She became the oldest active member of the Deer Creek Do-Ettes home demonstration club and held the club record with her 65-year membership. She had a flair for decorating and took great pride in keeping a beautiful home. In addition to travel and music, Donna also enjoyed league bowling with Lloyd, painting, auctions, card club with her friends, and worrying if her family would get home safely. . Like all the other Fisher and Boyer women, she was a wonderful cook.
Donna was a devoted wife and mother and is survived by two sons, Timothy (Patricia) Oldfather, Indianapolis, Randy (Sarah) Oldfather, Peru, and daughter Julie (William) Cumming, Peru. She was also very proud of her eight grandchildren, Jessica Oldfather, Erica Oldfather, Aaron (Ashley) Oldfather, Bryce Thompson, Adrianne Thompson, Brandon (Sarah) Appleton, Dustin (Kari) Cumming, Molly (Eric) Branstetter, 13 back -grandchildren, and his little dog, Gatsby.
She leaves behind her brother-in-law, Ronald (Patricia) Oldfather, Greenwood; six nephews, James Garber, Peru, Jeffrey Garber, Kokomo, Jason Garber, Kokomo, Ryan Oldfather (Indianapolis), Kirk Oldfather (Indianapolis), Jonathan Oldfather, Diablo, CA, and niece Jennifer (Oldfather) Coons, Alamo, CA.
She was predeceased by her parents, her older sister, Phyllis Joan (Boyer) Garber and her brother-in-law, Vern Garber; brother-in-law Gail E. Oldfather and sister-in-law, Isobel Oldfather. Also, loyal big-dogger, Roxie.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 4, 2022 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home, 136 South Elm Street, Bunker Hill, Indiana. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Richard Olson officiating. Interment will be at Springdale Cemetery in Bunker Hill, Indiana.
