Representation

Artist based in Houston, Texas Rick lowe (right) is now represented by Gagosian. Her first solo exhibition with the gallery is scheduled for fall 2022 at Gagosian New York. Founder of Project Row Houses in Houston, for the past two decades, Lowe has led collaborative, community, and art-driven projects focused on equity and justice. In 2018 he turned his attention to his own work, which encompasses painting, drawing and installation. Recent abstract paintings by Lowe have been featured in “Social Works,” the group exhibition in Gagosian New York curated by Antwaun Sargent. The artist’s work will also appear in “Social Works II”, the sequel to the show, which opens October 7 at Gagosian London. On September 29, Lowe kicks off the third season of Gagosian’s Artist Spotlight series.

nigerian artist Ifeyinwa Joy Chiamonwu joins the Jack Shainman gallery. Easily mistaken for photographs, his hyperrealistic drawings celebrate the history, traditions and cultural values ​​of his Igbo heritage. His first exhibition with Jack Shainman opens in January 2022 in New York. The presentation will be his first solo exhibition anywhere. Chiamonwu lives and works in Anambra, Nigeria.

Greene Naftali announced his representation of Brooklyn, NY Steffani Jemison. His multidisciplinary, conceptual and research-based practice draws inspiration from literature, ethnomusicology and the history of cinema. The gallery said that Jemison “is perhaps best known for her lush video portraits of highly skilled artists, whose haunting physical exploits pose the questions at the heart of Jemison’s own practice. ‘How do you move? Appointment

The Dia Art Foundation of New York has hired Jordan carter (left) as curator. He joined Dia from the Art Institute of Chicago where he is associate curator of modern and contemporary art. “I look forward to contributing to Dia’s mission to defend and expand the stories and legacy of minimal and conceptual art of the 1960s and 1970s, and to engage living artists in a sustained and meaningful way who extend these issues and dialogues into the 21st century. Ouaduda Muhammad is the new Director of Development at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (known as Atlanta Contemporary). His appointment is effective immediately. Welch School of Art & Design Gallery at Georgia State University.

In response to requests from students and faculty to diversify the faculty and program at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), the school hired 10 new teachers who teach in various disciplines: architecture, sculpture, digital + media, graphic design and liberal arts. The action is part of a RISD cluster recruitment initiative called Race in Art & Design.

Honors and Prizes

The list of finalists for the Future Generation Art Prize 2021 has been announced. The list of 21 artists includes Wendimagegn Belete (Ethiopia), Minia Biabiany (Guadeloupe), Rindon johnson (United States), Bronwyn Katz (South Africa), Paul Meheke (France), and Frida Orupabo (Norway). Their work is included in an exhibition at PinchukArtCentre in Kiev, Ukraine, until February 27, 2022. American sculptor Cameron Clayborn (right) won the Baloise Art Prize 2021. A native of Pine Bluff, Ark., he is a Masters of Fine Arts candidate at Yale University. The prize of CHF 30,000 ($ 32,500) is awarded to two artists whose work is exhibited in the Statements section at Art Basel in Switzerland. Clayborn’s work has been presented by the Simone Subal Gallery in New York.

Chicago based artist Amanda williams received a Women in Architecture award in 2021 from Architectural Record. Awarded in five categories, she was recognized as a leader of the new generation.
